Comparison

WedShoots is free. There is still an app to install.

Let us say it straight away, because it is true: WedShoots announces that all of it is free, its App Store listing declares no in-app purchase, and the service invites you to post as many photos as you want. On price, it is hard to do better.

The point worth weighing lies elsewhere: WedShoots works through an app you have to install. Its home page points to the App Store and to Google Play, and every guest has to go through it. That is the step where part of a wedding album gets lost.

Why the app changes everything

This is not a detail of comfort: it is what decides how many photos you will actually get back.

The ones who drop out are always the same

Install, accept, create an account, free up some space: every extra step pushes another slice of your guests away. The grandparents, the uncle whose phone is full, the cousin who will not add one more app for a single evening. They are often the ones holding the photos nobody else took.

The gesture has to fit in ten seconds

Scan a QR code with the camera, upload, done: no install, no account, a first name is enough. That is the whole point of the photo QR code, and what makes the difference on the night.

A free service, funded how?

That is the right question to put to any service, and the answer is written down somewhere. As of 7 August 2026, the WedShoots App Store listing declares a device identifier used for third-party advertising, and a name and an email address for the developer's marketing. It is declared, and plenty of free apps do the same: read the listing before you hand over family photos, to them as to anyone. Medley hosts in the European Union, with no advertising, and proves it.

What WedShoots does well

Let us be fair: WedShoots is an old and well-liked name, free for everybody, backed by Mariages.net, with a shared album where people comment and vote for the photos, and a learning curve many find gentle once the app is installed. If your guests are comfortable with that and total free-of-charge is what matters most, it is a legitimate choice. Our difference comes down to two stances: nothing to install for anyone, and European hosting we can prove.

Frequently asked questions

Is WedShoots really free?
Their site says all of it is free, and the App Store listing declares no in-app purchase (recorded on 7 August 2026). The trade-off is not a financial one: every guest has to install an app in order to take part.
What is the best alternative to WedShoots?
It depends what you are after. To get the maximum number of photos back, favour a service with no app. Our comparison of wedding photo apps goes through the main options, including where a competitor does better than we do.
Can I get my WedShoots photos back and move to Medley?
Yes: download the album from WedShoots while it is still active, create a Medley album and upload the lot into it. Your guests will find everything in one place, and can keep uploading with nothing to install. The album is kept at least until December 31, 2026.
Can a guest leave a message for the couple on WedShoots?
On their site as on their App Store listing, both recorded on 7 August 2026, a guest comments on a photo and votes for the ones they prefer: no guest book is announced there. Our guest book opens on the very page where a guest uploads their photos: the aunt who will never open an app dictates her message in thirty seconds.

Nothing to install. For anyone.

Create your Medley album: your guests scan, upload, and you get everything back.
